Have you ever heard the phrase, “It is easier to believe a lie that one has heard a thousand times than to believe a fact that one has never heard before.”1 Undoubtedly, millions (or billions) of people have heard their entire lives that “dinosaurs evolved and then went extinct millions of years ago—tens of millions of years before humans evolved.” Such (purportedly factual) teachings are then often accompanied by captivating illustrations of all sorts of dinosaurs—but never with any human beings. “If There is a God, Let Him Strike Me Dead Right Now!”

Most of us have heard the age-old story about the unbelieving professor. He stands in front of his class and demands that there is no God. “If there is a God,” he challenges, “then let Him strike me dead right here and now.” He pauses for dramatic effect and waits 30 seconds. When nothing happens, he proclaims his atheistic position as the victor and gloats, “Just as I suspected, I’m still alive. There is no God.” Supposedly, just because God does not do exactly as he demands at that particular instant, then that proves there is no God. What the Alleged Evolution of the Y Chromosome Really Teaches

It would feel like an abnormal week in the news if the American public was not treated to some new evolutionary finding that “amazes” our most brilliant scientists. On Wednesday, January 13, 2010, Associated Press staff writer Seth Borenstein reported on a recent study that purportedly showed that the Y chromosome in males is evolving faster than any other part of the human genome (2010). How did the researchers arrive at this mindboggling conclusion? Borenstein reported: “A new study comparing the Y chromosomes from humans and chimpanzees, our nearest living relatives, show [sic] that they are about 30 percent different. Was T-rex “Closer” to Birds Than to Reptiles?

Randolph Schmid, an Associated Press science writer, recently wrote an article titled: “Scientists Study Evidence Modern Birds Came from Dinosaurs.” Schmid was reporting on work done by John M. Asara of Harvard and a team of researchers, who analyzed collagen found in a Tyrannosaurus rex bone. Schmid wrote: “It looks like chickens deserve more respect. Scientists are fleshing out the proof that today’s broiler-fryer is descended from the mighty Tyrannosaurus rex (2008, emp. added). What evidence did Schmid present that exhibited “proof” of this allegedly evolutionary relationship? Some have challenged the justice and benevolence of God on the basis of His condemnation of those who never have the opportunity to obey the Gospel: “What will happen to those folks who never are given an opportunity to know Christ and His teaching?” Several factors deserve consideration. All human beings of accountable age and mind have sinned by violating God’s commands (Romans 3:9ff.,23; 1 John 3:4). Sin condemns a person to an eternal hell—there are no exceptions (Matthew 10:28; et al.). The only way a person can escape the consequences of his sin is to be forgiven by God.
