When You’ve Heard a Lie a Thousand Times, the Illustrated Truth Can Look “Crazy” at First

Apologetics
Have you ever heard the phrase, “It is easier to believe a lie that one has heard a thousand times than to believe a fact that one has never heard before.”1 Undoubtedly, millions (or billions) of people have heard their entire lives that “dinosaurs evolved and then went extinct millions of years ago—tens of millions of years before humans evolved.” Such (purportedly factual) teachings are then often accompanied by captivating illustrations of all sorts of dinosaurs—but never with any human beings. As we’ve been told thousands (or millions) of times: “Human beings never lived with dinosaurs” (and if you believe otherwise, you’re crazy)! I suppose, more than any other question that Apologetics Press tackles, we get more criticism from atheists, evolutionists, and even many Christians for our articles and books…

Where Was God During Hurricane Florence?

Evidence for God
By NASA, NNVL [Public domain], via Wikimedia Commons On September 14, 2018 Hurricane Florence made landfall just south of Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina. Like most hurricanes throughout history, this one left death and destruction in its wake. As shocking and heart-rending as such natural phenomena may seem, many other natural disasters have occurred in human history that exceed Florence, Harvey, Katrina, and even the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami in their toll of death and destruction. For example, throughout China’s history, extensive flooding has occurred countless times as a result of the mighty 3,000-mile-long Hwang Ho River. Several of the most terrible floods, with their ensuing famines, have been responsible for the deaths of more than a million people at a time. The southern levee of the river failed…

“If There is a God, Let Him Strike Me Dead Right Now!”

Evidence for God
Most of us have heard the age-old story about the unbelieving professor. He stands in front of his class and demands that there is no God. “If there is a God,” he challenges, “then let Him strike me dead right here and now.” He pauses for dramatic effect and waits 30 seconds. When nothing happens, he proclaims his atheistic position as the victor and gloats, “Just as I suspected, I’m still alive. There is no God.” Supposedly, just because God does not do exactly as he demands at that particular instant, then that proves there is no God. But let’s critically assess this emotional appeal (because it certainly is not a logical argument) and see how we could rationally respond to it. Is it true that someone who has the…

What the Alleged Evolution of the Y Chromosome Really Teaches

Apologetics
It would feel like an abnormal week in the news if the American public was not treated to some new evolutionary finding that “amazes” our most brilliant scientists. On Wednesday, January 13, 2010, Associated Press staff writer Seth Borenstein reported on a recent study that purportedly showed that the Y chromosome in males is evolving faster than any other part of the human genome (2010). How did the researchers arrive at this mindboggling conclusion? Borenstein reported: “A new study comparing the Y chromosomes from humans and chimpanzees, our nearest living relatives, show [sic] that they are about 30 percent different. That is far greater than the 2 percent difference between the rest of the human genetic code and that of the chimp’s” (2010). Jennifer Hughes, the lead author of the…

Science vs. the Big Bang & Evolution: A Concise Look

Science vs. the Big Bang & Evolution: A Concise Look

Apologetics
[NOTE: The following article is a special section within the Apologetics Press study Bible, currently scheduled to be released in 2020. In order to stay in keeping with the “concise” approach, the typical references have been omitted. The reader is referred to our Web site and monthly journal Reason & Revelation for citation of the many relevant articles on these subjects.] Many within Christendom have attempted to create compatibility between naturalistic evolution (i.e., cosmic evolution—the Big Bang Theory plus Darwinian Evolution) and Scripture. Before even spending time attempting to reconcile Scripture with such theories, however, one should first consider whether evolution is even a rational scientific theory to begin with—supported by the evidence. According to the Big Bang Theory, all matter and energy that comprise the Universe were originally in…

Did God Create Us with a Desire to Sin?

Evidence for God
“There is no doubt that humans want to sin. Why would a loving God that does not want us to sin create us with that desire? What an evil thing to do! Apparently, He wants us to sin! How is that fair? Why would He expect us to not sin and then tempt us by giving us the desire to do it? That’s sick. How could He be a loving God?” Several months ago, a young lady approached me and made these accusations against God. Is this a dilemma for the God of the Bible?1 For the sake of argument, we will assume for a moment that it is true that God created us with a desire to sin. First, if we grant that He created us with a “desire to sin,” is…

Was T-rex “Closer” to Birds Than to Reptiles?

Was T-rex “Closer” to Birds Than to Reptiles?

Apologetics
Randolph Schmid, an Associated Press science writer, recently wrote an article titled: “Scientists Study Evidence Modern Birds Came from Dinosaurs.” Schmid was reporting on work done by John M. Asara of Harvard and a team of researchers, who analyzed collagen found in a Tyrannosaurus rex bone. Schmid wrote: “It looks like chickens deserve more respect. Scientists are fleshing out the proof that today’s broiler-fryer is descended from the mighty Tyrannosaurus rex (2008, emp. added). What evidence did Schmid present that exhibited “proof” of this allegedly evolutionary relationship? Schmid offers his “proof” of this idea in the following sentence: “Now, bits of protein obtained from connective tissues in a T. rex fossil shows a relationship to birds including chickens and ostriches, according to a report in Friday’s edition of the journal…

Dating in Archaeology: Challenges to Biblical Credibility

Apologetics
by  Garry K. Brantley, M.A., M.Div. [EDITOR’S NOTE: This is the second of a two-part series on “Dating in Archaeology.” Part I is titled “Dating in Archaeology: Radiocarbon and Tree-Ring Dating.”] “Biblical historical data are accurate to an extent far surpassing the ideas of any modern critical students, who have consistently tended to err on the side of hypercriticism” (1949, Albright, p. 229). “Archaeologists now generally agree that their discoveries...have produced a new consensus about the formation of ancient Israel that contradicts significant parts of the biblical version” (Strauss, 1988). These statements represent the conflicting messages that characterize the field of archaeology. In Albright’s era, archaeologists’ interpretations of field excavations ordinarily corroborated biblical information. It was common for prominent archaeologists such as Nelson Glueck to confidently affirm: “...no archaeological discovery…

Christian Truth How Scientists Have Armed Christians with Evidence By Brace E. Barber Apologetics Speakers June 29, 2018 Christianity’s Truth Mission Christianity was sorely damaged by its own search for the truth starting in the Renaissance. It is as if Christian leaders commissioned the digging of a well and then drown in the flood that their work caused. This water that was the focus of their theology ended up nourishing everything that they detested. The Renaissance of the 15th through 17th centuries brought about a renewed focus on reason instead of faith. Scholars began to explore evidence for their beliefs and they put a premium on conclusions that were empirically provable. Over time, science played an ever increasing role in shaping the core beliefs of society. The Renaissance created the…

What About Those Who Never Hear the Gospel?

Evidence for God
Some have challenged the justice and benevolence of God on the basis of His condemnation of those who never have the opportunity to obey the Gospel: “What will happen to those folks who never are given an opportunity to know Christ and His teaching?” Several factors deserve consideration. All human beings of accountable age and mind have sinned by violating God’s commands (Romans 3:9ff.,23; 1 John 3:4). Sin condemns a person to an eternal hell—there are no exceptions (Matthew 10:28; et al.). The only way a person can escape the consequences of his sin is to be forgiven by God. But the nature of deity is such that God cannot merely wave aside sin and forgive. To do so would literally violate His infinitely holy, righteous/just nature. So God had…
